Five provinces invited candidates from June 23 to 29, namely, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, and PEI.
Between the provincial and federal governments, immigration is treated as a shared responsibility. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) exist to select economic immigration candidates who are best suited to fulfill the labour shortage and economic needs of a province.
Candidates having occupations in the healthcare, agriculture, and tech sectors are targeted by the most PNPs as these sectors are experiencing major labour shortages. On a federal level, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) adopted a similar approach recently and has started holding category-based selection draws for Express Entry draws.
For example, IRCC invited the first 500 Express Entry candidates based on their healthcare occupations on June 28. On July 5, alongside a draw for candidates in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations, 1500 more candidates are expected to be invited in the same week.
Quebec has a separate agreement with the federal government because of which it does not have its own Provincial Nomination Program (PNP). Challenges to the criteria for provincial immigration were recently proposed by Quebec. Newcomers with strong French-speaking abilities are required to be invited by the provinces.

Every week on Tuesdays, draws are typically held under British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program. Over four draws, more than 180 BC PNP candidates had been invited on June 27.
Tech occupations were included in the largest draw which was a general draw. The rest of the 3 draws targeted Skilled Workers and International Graduates, including Express Entry candidates. 20 candidates were invited from the field of healthcare, 30 candidates were invited from the early childhood educators and assistants sector, and less than five were invited from other priority occupations
