Five provinces invited candidates from June 23 to 29, namely, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, and PEI.
Between the provincial and federal governments, immigration is treated as a shared responsibility. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) exist to select economic immigration candidates who are best suited to fulfill the labour shortage and economic needs of a province.
Candidates having occupations in the healthcare, agriculture, and tech sectors are targeted by the most PNPs as these sectors are experiencing major labour shortages. On a federal level, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) adopted a similar approach recently and has started holding category-based selection draws for Express Entry draws.
For example, IRCC invited the first 500 Express Entry candidates based on their healthcare occupations on June 28. On July 5, alongside a draw for candidates in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations, 1500 more candidates are expected to be invited in the same week.
Quebec has a separate agreement with the federal government because of which it does not have its own Provincial Nomination Program (PNP). Challenges to the criteria for provincial immigration were recently proposed by Quebec. Newcomers with strong French-speaking abilities are required to be invited by the provinces.
Provincial Immigration Results June 23-29
Every week on Tuesdays, draws are typically held under British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program. Over four draws, more than 180 BC PNP candidates had been invited on June 27.
Tech occupations were included in the largest draw which was a general draw. Invitations were sent to 130 candidates from the International Graduate, Skilled Worker, Entry Level, and Semi-Skilled streams. The SIRS score for British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program is equivalent to the CRS score in Express Entry.
The cut-off SIRS score for the Skilled Workers category was 106, it was 109 for International Graduates, and 87 for Entry-level and Semi-Skilled candidates.
The rest of the 3 draws targeted Skilled Workers and International Graduates, including Express Entry candidates. 20 candidates were invited from the field of healthcare, 30 candidates were invited from the early childhood educators and assistants sector, and less than five were invited from other priority occupations
Under a special measure for Ukrainians, 49 people were invited by Manitoba who were impacted by the ongoing unrest. Under Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), candidates who received invitations must still be eligible for the Skilled Workers Overseas pathway
Under the skilled worker in Manitoba pathway, CUAET holders working for at least six months in Manitoba in any occupation may be eligible to apply to the MPNP as stated by the province.
This week, under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), results were published for 3 draws. They were held between June 20 and June 22.
In the June 20 draw, 68 notifications of interest (NOIs) were sent by the province to candidates in the Priority Sector – Construction occupation with Alberta job offer stream. The Cut-off Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 301.
On 21 June, 19 NOIs were issued to candidates in the Designated Healthcare pathway, Alberta job offer, for which the CRS cut-off score was 318. With a cut-off CRS score of 306, 125 NOIs were sent to the candidates on June 22 in the family connection and primary occupation in demand streams.
To be eligible to move through this stream, the family member of candidates such as parents, spouses, or siblings must be already living in the province and they must have work experience in occupation –in demand.
On June 22, 1,006 skilled workers were invited to apply for permanent selection under Quebec Skilled Worker Program by the Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration. They require a cut-off score of 626. Candidates who received invitations had French language proficiency up to level 7 or higher according to the Quebec scale of French proficiency levels for adult immigrants.
To apply under Labour and Express Entry categories, 90 candidates were invited by Prince Edward Island PNP on June 29. Candidates with a local job offer or who graduated from a PEI institution, including Express Entry candidates are the focus of the draws which are held approximately two weeks.
