Invitations were issued by two provinces in the latest PNP draw, namely British Columbia and Prince Edward Island.
Provincial Governments and Federal Governments both share the responsibility of immigration. For choosing candidates who can fulfill the mandate of the immigration minister to welcome newcomers capable of contributing to the economy of Canada, PNP is often seen as an efficient method.
The selection of economic immigration candidates is done by various provinces who may integrate easily into the labour market and have a positive impact on the economy of the country, which further makes it easy for immigrants to settle in a province.
If an Express Entry candidate receives the provincial nomination, it is more likely for him/her to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as 600 additional points will be received by the candidate for PNP nomination by Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
For permanent residence in upcoming Express Entry draws, an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is more likely to be received by candidates with higher CRS scores. In the Immigration Levels Plan 2023-2025, PNPs have the largest target for PR admissions. More than 105,000 provincial nominee program candidates are expected to be welcomed under the plan in 2023 and by the end of 2025, this count will rise to 117,000 per year.
Provincial Immigration Results March 25-31
British Columbia
Under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program, more than 211 candidates were invited by British Columbia on March 30. Draws are held by provinces every week typically. In a targeted draw for tech occupations, 165 candidates were invited, among the candidates from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate stream (including EEBC option). 65 is the cut-off score required by the candidates under the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS), which works much like the Comprehensive Ranking System.
Provinces also invited candidates from the below-mentioned occupations:
- With a cut-off score of 60 points, 23 healthcare workers from the International Graduate, Skilled Worker, including Express Entry categories were invited.
- With a cut-off score of 60 points, 23 early childhood educators and assistants were invited.
- With a minimum of 60 points, other priority occupations were invited.
Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island invited 113 candidates on March 30 under the PEI PNP labour and Express Entry stream.
PEI typically holds draws once a month, that’s why holding the third PEI draw in march was a very unusual step. In this draw, candidates from PEI’s business work permit entrepreneur stream were not included. Draws usually include candidates from each stream which is why it is very unusual for a province to do this. It is the second draw in March to do so.
