Latest Express Entry Draw for PNP Applicants: October 2024 – Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently held a new Express Entry draw, inviting 1,613 candidates who had Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nominations. To qualify for this round, applicants needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 743.

The previous draw, which took place on September 19, invited 4,000 candidates from the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). In that round, a CRS score of at least 509 was required, which marked a slight increase from the earlier CEC draw on August 27, where the cut-off was 507.

CEC-specific draws have become more frequent over the summer. Since July, IRCC has issued 21,800 ITAs to CEC candidates. This shift aligns with IRCC’s strategy to focus more on domestic applicants and reduce the number of temporary residents, all while working to meet its annual target for permanent residents.

This latest draw is the first one held in October. For comparison, last year, IRCC conducted four draws throughout the month, issuing a total of 9,173 ITAs.

Overview of Express Entry?

Express Entry, introduced in 2015, is a system designed to streamline the selection of skilled workers for Canada’s economic immigration programs. It manages three key programs: 

• Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP). 
• Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). 
• Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Candidates are assessed through the CRS, which awards points based on factors like age, work experience, education, language proficiency, and occupation. Additional points are available for factors like having a spouse, a sibling in Canada, or Canadian work and educational experience. Higher CRS scores improve the chances of receiving an ITA in future draws.

Category-Based Selection

In May 2023, IRCC launched category-based selection draws. These draws focus on candidates who can help fill critical gaps in the workforce or meet demographic needs. There are six categories:

1. Healthcare
2. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) professions
3. Skilled trades
4. Transport
5. Agriculture and agri-food
6. French language proficiency

These categories were developed through consultations with various stakeholders and an analysis of labor market needs. One of IRCC’s goals is to ensure 6% of newcomers are admitted to French-speaking communities outside Quebec.

Although CRS cut-off scores tend to be lower in category-based draws, having a strong CRS score is still an advantage. Candidates must already be in the Express Entry pool to be eligible for these draws.
