
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has held a new Express Entry draw, issuing 391 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) under the newly launched Physicians with Canadian Work Experience category.
This is the first-ever draw under this category and the ninth Express Entry selection round of 2026.
CRS Score Drops to 169 – One of the Lowest in History
Candidates required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of just 169, making it the second-lowest CRS cut-off in Express Entry history.
Only one draw in 2021 during the pandemic under the Canadian Experience Class had a lower score of 75.
To qualify for this round, candidates needed to:
- Have a CRS score of at least 169; and
- Create their Express Entry profile before 3:25 a.m. UTC on January 3, 2026.

New Pathway to Strengthen Canada’s Healthcare System
IRCC introduced the Physicians with Canadian Work Experience category in December 2025 as part of new measures aimed at addressing Canada’s shortage of doctors.
This targeted category prioritizes physicians who are already contributing to Canada’s healthcare system and have gained professional experience within the country.
Who Is Eligible Under This Category?
To qualify, candidates must:
- Meet eligibility criteria for one of the three Express Entry-managed programs
- Have at least 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience within the past three years
- Gain this work experience in Canada
- Work in one of the three eligible physician occupations under this category
- Meet all ministerial instructions for the specific selection round
