The Government of Quebec has announced a new intake period for family sponsorship applications, set to begin on July 2, 2026. Under the new plan, the province will accept a maximum of 15,700 sponsorship undertakings over the next two years, including 13,300 applications for spouses and 2,400 applications for parents and grandparents.
A significant change introduced in this intake is that adult dependent children will no longer be counted under the application cap, making it easier for eligible families to reunite in Quebec. Any sponsorship applications submitted after the cap has been reached will be returned without processing, and application fees will be refunded.
The announcement was made by Quebec’s immigration ministry, the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI). The ministry also confirmed that it will prioritize processing older applications once the new intake period begins.
The sponsorship cap does not apply to dependent children, orphaned minor children, children being adopted, or dependents added to an existing sponsorship undertaking. For immigration purposes, a dependent child is generally defined as an unmarried child under the age of 22.
Quebec first introduced limits on family sponsorship undertakings in June 2024. During the previous intake period, the quotas for spouses and adult dependent children were reached by July 2025, while the cap for parents and grandparents was filled later that month.
Unlike other provinces in Canada, individuals planning to settle in Quebec through family sponsorship must first obtain a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) before applying for permanent residence. This additional step is part of Quebec’s unique immigration selection system.
Families wishing to sponsor loved ones in Quebec should prepare their applications early, as demand for family sponsorship programs remains high and quotas can be reached quickly.
