Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released its latest temporary residence processing time update, bringing encouraging news for many foreign workers and visitors planning to move to Canada.
The latest figures, updated on June 17, show shorter processing times for several work permit and visitor visa categories, while super visa applications have experienced longer waiting periods.
Work Permit Processing Times Improve
Applicants already inside Canada have seen one of the biggest improvements in processing times. The estimated wait for in-Canada work permit applications has dropped from 186 days to 171 days, reflecting a 15-day reduction in just one week.
Applicants applying from Pakistan and Nigeria also benefited from faster processing, with wait times decreasing by one week. Meanwhile, processing times for applicants from India, the United States, and the Philippines remained unchanged.
Current Work Permit Processing Times
- Canada: 171 days
- India: 9 weeks
- Pakistan: 5 weeks
- Nigeria: 16 weeks
- United States: 4 weeks
- Philippines: 8 weeks
Study Permit Timelines Stable
IRCC reported no changes to study permit processing times this week. Processing estimates continue to range between four and six weeks depending on the applicant’s country of residence.
The stable processing timeline offers reassurance to international students preparing for upcoming academic intakes.
Visitor Visa Wait Times Show Mixed Results
Visitor visa processing improved for several countries.
Applicants from India, Pakistan, the United States, and the Philippines experienced slight reductions in waiting periods, while processing times for applicants within Canada and Nigeria increased marginally.
Current visitor visa estimates include:
- Canada: 44 days
- India: 24 days
- Pakistan: 43 days
- Nigeria: 53 days
- United States: 31 days
- Philippines: 17 days
Super Visa Processing Takes Longer
Unlike work permits and visitor visas, super visa applications saw longer processing times across all major countries.
Pakistan experienced the largest increase, with processing times rising from 73 days to 84 days. Processing also increased for applicants from the United States, the Philippines, India, and Nigeria.
Current super visa estimates are:
- India: 110 days
- Pakistan: 84 days
- Nigeria: 35 days
- United States: 101 days
- Philippines: 41 days
Understanding IRCC Processing Times
IRCC updates temporary residence processing times every week to reflect current application inventories and operational capacity. These estimates provide applicants with an approximate timeline but do not guarantee when an application will be finalized.
Service standards represent IRCC’s internal targets under normal conditions, but actual processing may vary depending on application complexity, background verification, and overall application volumes.
Applicants are encouraged to regularly monitor IRCC updates while planning their travel, work, or study arrangements in Canada.
