Prince Edward Island Issues New Invitations to Immigration Candidates

On June 19, Prince Edward Island (PEI) held its sixth Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw of the year, inviting 52 candidates across three different immigration streams. Notably, this draw included the province’s first entrepreneurial invitation of the year.

Breakdown of Invitations:

• Labour Impact and Express Entry Streams: 51 invitations
• Business Impact – Work Permit Stream: 1 invitation
  

These invitations were issued to candidates working in sectors critical to PEI’s economy, such as healthcare, trades, and manufacturing.

Due to limited nomination spaces and high demand, PEI is focusing on selecting skilled workers who match its current labour market needs. The Office of Immigration is prioritizing applicants with experience and skills in key sectors that are facing shortages.

So far in 2025, PEI has issued a total of 621 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through its PNP program.

How to Get Selected for PEI Immigration

If you want to immigrate to PEI, you must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the province. This allows PEI to assess your profile based on factors like:

• Your English or French language ability
• Your education (level, subject, and where it was completed)
• Work experience and job skills
• How well you fit PEI’s labour market priorities
• Additional employment-related factors like a PEI job offer or past work in Canada

Once your EOI is submitted, you’ll be entered into a candidate pool and ranked. High-scoring candidates may then receive an invitation to apply for provincial nomination.

PEI’s Work Permit Stream for Entrepreneurs

In this latest draw, PEI issued one invitation through its Business Impact Category – Work Permit Stream. This stream is for international entrepreneurs who want to invest in and run a business in PEI.

To qualify, candidates must:

• Have a minimum net worth of $600,000
• Meet language requirements (at least CLB 4 in English or French)
• Have either owned a business before or held a senior management position
• Hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent
• Plan to live in PEI and actively manage a local business

Candidates must also be between 21 and 59 years old at the time of applying.

Entrepreneurs arrive in PEI on a temporary work permit, run the business for one year, and may then become eligible for a nomination for permanent residency.

Selection in this category is based on a points system, where applicants can score up to 210 points based on various criteria.

This draw is yet another sign that PEI is actively working to attract skilled professionals and business-minded individuals who can contribute to the province’s economy and community development.
