Alberta Issues New Invitations for Provincial Immigration

Alberta has continued its active support for skilled health care professionals by conducting three immigration draws in the first half of April. Through these rounds, a total of 81 candidates received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for provincial nomination under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP).

The AAIP officially released details of these draws last week, outlining selections made via both Express Entry-aligned and non-Express Entry pathways, all of which targeted health care professionals.

Breakdown of the Draws

1. Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Express Entry Stream) – April 1, 2025

The first draw took place on April 1, focusing on candidates registered under the Express Entry system. Through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Alberta invited 34 qualified health care professionals. To be considered, applicants needed a minimum score of 60.

2. Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sector Draw (Health Care) – April 4, 2025

On April 4, the province held another draw under the Alberta Express Entry stream, specifically targeting the health care sector, identified as one of the province’s priority industries. In this round, 19 health care professionals received invitations, with the lowest-ranking candidate having a score of 71.

3. Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Non-Express Entry Stream) – April 8, 2025

The third draw was conducted on April 8 and invited 28 health care professionals through the non-Express Entry stream of the Dedicated Health Care Pathway. To qualify, candidates needed a minimum score of 53.

Who is Eligible?

Alberta continues to welcome skilled professionals from key health care occupations through both Express Entry and non-Express Entry channels. Candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements, including the following:

For the Non-Express Entry Dedicated Health Care Pathway:

• A valid job offer from an Alberta-based employer in an eligible health care occupation.
  
• Language proficiency of at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in all four abilities, unless your licensing body has different language criteria.
  
• Licensed Practical Nurses must show how they fulfilled the language requirement to get licensed. If they met this through employer verification in an English-speaking setting, they must still submit an approved language test with at least CLB 5 scores.
  
• Clinical Social Workers are required to provide proof of language exam results or an approved language test with minimum CLB 5 in all categories.
  
• Proof of eligibility to practice in Alberta as determined by the applicable regulatory authority.
  
• Either a valid work permit or maintained status during application processing if already working in Alberta.
  

Note: The Dedicated Health Care Pathway includes both enhanced (Express Entry-aligned) and base (non-Express Entry) intakes. Candidates who qualify under the Express Entry system are encouraged to apply through the enhanced stream.

For the Express Entry-aligned Stream:

To apply under this stream, candidates must:

• Be eligible for one of the federal Express Entry programs.
• Have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 300.
• Have an eligible health care occupation listed as their primary occupation in their Express Entry profile.
• Possess a valid job offer from an Alberta employer in the health care field to be selected in a Priority Sector draw.
