
Canada has achieved another major milestone in global education by ranking above the United States in university research performance, according to the latest 2026 MeasuresHE Country 100 Report. The report highlights Canada’s growing influence in higher education, innovation, and academic excellence, reinforcing the country’s reputation as one of the best destinations for international students.
The newly released global higher education rankings placed Canada among the world’s top-performing countries for university research quality and global academic impact. Canada secured the third position globally with a research score of 89.4, while the United States ranked fourth with a score of 89.0.

Canada Strengthens Its Position as a Global Education Hub
Canada’s strong performance in the report further strengthens its image as a preferred destination for international education and research opportunities. In addition to surpassing the United States in research rankings, Canada also performed exceptionally well in academic integrity and international integration.
Canada achieved a perfect academic integrity score of 100, compared to 99.6 for the United States. The country also scored significantly higher in international integration, receiving 84.0 compared to the U.S. score of 60.4.
These rankings reflect Canada’s commitment to maintaining a transparent, inclusive, and globally connected higher education system. Universities across Canada continue to attract talented students, researchers, and faculty members from around the world.

The overall rankings in the MeasuresHE Country 100 Report were determined using 25 performance indicators across seven major pillars:

- Sustainability – 8%
Among these categories, research carried the highest weight. The report described the research pillar as a measure of national research leadership, global impact, and the development of world-class academic talent.
