Newfoundland and Labrador Issues 190 Invitations in Latest Immigration Draw

On May 1, 2026, Newfoundland and Labrador conducted its fourth provincial immigration draw of the year, issuing a total of 190 invitations to candidates.

Invitations were extended through two key pathways:

• Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP)
• Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)

Draw Breakdown

The majority of invitations were issued under the NLPNP, continuing the province’s trend of prioritizing this pathway.

Notably, the province does not disclose specific NLPNP streams under which candidates are invited.

Lowest Draw of 2026 So Far

This latest round marks the smallest draw of the year, continuing a pattern of gradually declining invitation numbers in each successive round. However, the number of AIP invitations has remained consistent at 33 in the last two draws.

So far in 2026, Newfoundland and Labrador has issued 1,090 invitations:

• 905 (83%) through NLPNP
• 185 through AIP

This represents a 325.8% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when only one draw was held between January 1 and May 1, inviting 256 candidates.

How to Apply for NLPNP and AIP

Since February 2025, both programs operate under an Expression of Interest (EOI) system.

To be considered, candidates must:

• Submit an EOI profile
• Provide details such as:
  • Occupation
  • Education
  • Language proficiency
  • Intent to settle in the province

A valid job offer is required for most streams under both programs (except NLPNP entrepreneur streams).

Selection Priorities

The Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism (OIM) may prioritize candidates based on:

• Healthcare occupations (high demand)
• Rural and regional employment needs
• Sales and service roles outside St. John’s
• Underrepresented sectors (e.g., trades, science, finance)
• Employer reliability and compliance history
• Long-term settlement potential
• Newfoundland and Labrador graduates
• Francophone immigration targets
• Strong settlement support from employers or communities

What Happens After Invitation?

• Invited candidates (or employers under AIP) have 60 days to submit a full application
• Applications are then assessed under standard procedures
• EOIs remain valid in the pool for up to 12 months
