Eligibility
Points are allocated on the basis of:
- Age: The skilled migrant visa is designed for people, willing to migrate and make a long term contribution to New Zealand. the applicant should be aged from 20-55. More points are allocated for younger people. The applicants aged 56 years or older are in-eligible to apply. However such people can be eligible for migration to New Zealand as: an investor; or to establish a business; or as a key employee of a relocating business.
- Qualifications: The qualifications of New Zealand skilled migrant visa applicants will be judged on their standard of qualification in comparison to New Zealand qualifications. Additional points can be granted for study undertaken in New Zealand and also for study in a shortage area.
- Employment: This is a key factor of any application for skilled migrant visa to New Zealand. Applicants will have a better chance of qualifying under this category if they obtain a relevant job offer from a New Zealand employer. Skilled employment includes jobs ranging from professional positions to working in trades.
- Work experience: Points are granted to skilled migrant visa applicants having a work experience that is relevant to their qualification or a job offer in New Zealand. The greater work experience results in an increased weighting of points that will be allocated to an application. Additional points may also be gained for having work experience in New Zealand.
- Health: The applicant is required to meet the standard health criteria. If the applicant's EOI is selected and he is invited to apply for residence, then the application should be accompanied by Medical and Chest X-ray certificates, for each applicant.
- Character: The applicant should meet the character requirements and provide a police certificate.
- Language: The applicant needs to have the required threshold of English Language, before commencing the process.
- Future growth area: Bonus points can be granted to applicants, either having a job offer in New Zealand in one of the areas and/or work experience in one of the specified fields.
- Partner: Points can be allocated for an applicant whose partner has either an offer of employment in New Zealand and/or a relevant qualification.
- Region: Additional points may be allocated to an applicant who has a New Zealand job offer outside of Auckland.
- Family: Applicants can also be awarded points for having a family member, who is a permanent resident or citizen of New Zealand.
Duration
There are two ways whereby a successful applicant can become eligible for migration to New Zealand. The first method is via a residence visa or permit. The second method is via a work to residence visa or permit, which enables a successful applicant to establish himself in skilled employment in New Zealand and subsequently gain residence. |
